About Blue Streak
Interior Design
Hi, I’m Josepha Rood, owner and designer of Blue Streak Interior Design.
I help Seattle and Eastside homeowners make thoughtfully bold design decisions and create homes that feel comfortable, interesting and personal, not predictable. But I bring more than a creative eye to that work.
Before launching Blue Streak, I spent years in IT business analysis and project management roles across education, media, financial services, child welfare and the judicial system. That experience taught me how to ask good questions, clarify priorities, organize complicated information and help people move forward when there are a lot of interconnected decisions to make.
These skills allow me to look beyond a beautiful tile or paint color, understand how the pieces affect one another, and help clients make choices that work for their homes, budgets and lives.
THE HOME THAT SHAPED HOW I SEE DESIGN
Long before I knew the language of interior design, I understood that a memorable home is not created by copying a look. It is created through choices that have a reason for being there.
I grew up in a 1960s ranch house in small-town Texas, but the home my Dutch parents created inside it was anything but typical. My father loved Scandinavian modern design. He built furniture, transformed our carport into a living room and built my bedroom when I was born. My mother brought antiques, artwork and objects connected to the places and people in her past. The things in our home were not chosen because they matched perfectly or happened to be readily available. They were useful, meaningful and worth seeking out.
It was distinctive without being precious; it was purposeful and comfortable. Our house was the place where our friends gathered.
WHERE EXPERIENCE & DESIGN CAME TOGETHER
The dots between my practical skills and inherited love of deliberate home-making finally connected when I took on a major remodel of my own home. I discovered I loved collaborating with the architect, interior designer, contractor and trades. I enjoyed solving problems, understanding how each decision affected the next and seeing ideas become real spaces. And by the end of the project, our interior designer had invited me to join her team!
I went on to work on residential design projects and formally study interior design before launching Blue Streak, where my experience, instincts, and interests finally found a home they could all live in happily, together.
WHAT “FIND YOUR BOLD” MEANS
Bold does not automatically mean bright color, dramatic pattern or the trend everyone is talking about.
Sometimes it means moving beyond the safe default. Sometimes it means showing restraint. Sometimes it means saying no to what everyone else likes and choosing what feels right to you.
My job is not to give you my version of bold.
It is to listen closely, help you recognize yours and give you the practical guidance you need to bring it to life.
Ready to find your bold?
